Interview with the DJ LATIN PRINCE UNIVERSAL MO-TOWN
Growing up in San Francisco, Latin Prince started mixing in the early 80, providing
music at local parties, weddings and schools. By 1990 his skills on the
tables were ready for the clubs.
LP rocked all the hot clubs in the San Francisco Bay Area. As a resident DJ
at City Nights, The X, Sound Factory, Club Mirage, Giovanis and many more,
he made a huge name for himself in the music and club scene, eventually
landing himself a slot on the ..1 rated radio station KMEL.
In 1992 he joined KMEL, mixing with the likes of Glenn Aure now at Capitol
Records, Alex Mejia (Mentor) Radio AOL/former A&R for Virgin Records, Dave
Meyer of Wicked Mix, Franzen Wong KVEG in Las Vegas, and Rick Lee who still
holds down mixes on KMEL. They formed the original ALL STAR DJS.
LP left KMEL in 1997, moving to Los Angeles to become associate editor at
HITS magazine, alongside Ricky Leigh to help run his mix show column.
After a five year stint with the magazine LP decided to take a run at the
label side. In 2001 He joined the Urban Staff at MCA Records as National
Director of Rap Promotions, helping break records by Mary J. Blige, Common,
Roots, Talib Kweli, Field Mob & many others.
After 2 years with the label, MCA closed the doors in June of 2003. LP
decided to form his own Marketing & Promotions company, Urban Jungle Music,
Consulting on projects for J Records, Geffen, Interscope, Universal – Motown
Records, Atlantic Records, RSMG, Interscope and others.
LP also worked as the Ntl Mix Show Director for TVT Records for 3 1/2 years.
He has been busy working with Lil Jon & The East Side Boyz, who went double
platinum. Ying Yang Twins who recently went gold & platinum, and breaking
artist Teedra Moses, Pitbull (Gold), Chyna White, 213 and many others.
