NEW REALITY SERIES GIVES THE BEST UNSIGNED BASKETBALL PLAYERS IN THE COUNTRY A SECOND CHANCE AT THE PROS
August 24, 2009 Two-time world champion pro basketball player Craig Hodges will host the dynamic new sports reality series, Americas Next Sports Star. The show, produced by Americas Next Sports Superstar LLC a production company specializing in multi-sport reality programming, will feature the best unsigned basketball players from three U.S cities, competing against one another to win a shot at the pros. The weekly half-hour series will air on VERSUS, the nations fastest growing sports cable network now in more than 75 million homes, on Tuesday nights at 6:00 p.m. ET, beginning November 3.
Open tryouts were held in Brooklyn, Newark, and Miami and gave every player who turned out a chance to impress the panel of judges. In each episode of the show, viewers will see how players were evaluated through a series of tough, pro caliber skills challenges, including passing, shooting, ball handling, a wild slam dunk competition and a series of 1 on 1, 3 on 3 and 4 on 4 competitions.
In the end, four players from each city are selected to move on to a final round. From these elite 12 players, viewers can go to www.americasnextsportsstar.com to vote for the overall winner. The shows winner will be awarded a contract with one of the top pro sports agencies in the country and an all expenses paid trip to Las Vegas.
This is really a show about second chances. said Executive Producer George Tisen. A lot of the players we feature on the show are guys who were either streetball legends, high school phenoms, or genuine college prospects. Somewhere along the fast track to the pros, they fell off the rails for one reason or another. The real contenders have worked on their game, matured their attitude, and are ready to realize their lifelong dream of playing pro basketball. Second chances are critical in sports and in life, and with this show were thrilled to be giving a handful of super talented athletes the second chance they deserve.
Joining Craig Hodges on the show are a number of weekly special guests, including former pro players Jerome Henderson, Andre Spence, Freeman Williams, Bryon Russell, Larry Spriggs and former coaches such as Fred Vinson and Margaret Mohr. In addition to adding their insight during the competitions, the guests will also offer tips on how to improve game skills, which will be available on the shows website, www.americasnextsportsstar.com and Stack magazines website, www.stack.com.
