At the age of twelve, Tanya Lemani came with her parents to America. Not speaking a word of english, being poor, while living in somebody’s basement, she tried to embrace American ways and to follow her dream of becoming a classical ballet dancer, following the foot steps of her childhood hero Betty Davis. She was unexpectedly thrown into the fast paced world of Las Vegas as a dancer in a Belly Dance show. Along with her family, she escaped the horrors of communism by coming to America at the age of 12. Her new world desires conflicted with her parent’s old world beliefs and caused such strain that the pressure became devastating, leading to suicide attempts.
Tanya Lemani’s show business journey started at the age of 16 with a belly dancing engagement at the Flamingo Hotel in Las Vegas. From there this tell-all book brings to light her career as a belly dancer and actress, the experiences that one girl had while working in Hollywood film and television and in Las Vegas showrooms as a headliner in the 60’s. Lemani made special guest appearances on the top television shows of the era including I Dream of Jeannie, Get Smart, It Takes a Thief, Star Trek, The Flying Nun, The Man From U.N.C.L.E., Elvis: ’68 Comeback Special and many more.
Lemani unwraps a series of personal, true life experiences in each page of the book, with an “A” list of Hollywood’s elite that includes Mickey Rooney, Elvis Presley, Robert Wagner, Gregory Peck to her romantic episodes with Omar Sharif and William Shatner, and even royal gifts offered by Shahen Shah Pahlavi of Iran, and love affair with Viguen, famous singer of Iranian pop. She addresses the deception and sexual harassments that actresses endured at that time in Hollywood, from the studios, producers and directors.
Tanya Lemani co-starred with Bob Hope, Elvis Presley, William Shatner, and many more stars. She was entertained by Ambassadors and Kings. She was showcased in many fantastic roles in prominent plays and musicals. Now, Tanya is an accomplished author. Her latest book is titled “Have Belly Will Travel”, an autobiographical piece telling a story of her hardships and triumphs in her life. She is also a screenplay writer and presently is producing two of film projects, “Pushkin’s Honor” and “Kira’s Diary”.
Tanya Lemani’s mission in her life is to educate the “young Hollywood”, produce ground breaking films, and create projects that can provide a voice to those to those who can not speak to the Entertainment World!
